Kaldi Institute was built on a single conviction — that Nepal deserves a specialty coffee education as rigorous and passionate as the coffee itself. Since 2018 we have been training the next generation of baristas and roasters.

"Teaching the science and structure behind coffee, preparing Nepal's next generation of baristas."
— Kaldi Instructor Team
To elevate coffee culture in Nepal by providing world-class, structured, and scientifically grounded coffee education that prepares students for domestic and international careers in specialty coffee.
To become South Asia's leading coffee academy — recognised for technical excellence, state-of-the-art training labs, and a thriving community of skilled coffee professionals shaping the region's café culture.
Our academy is named after Kaldi, the legendary 9th-century Ethiopian goatherd who discovered the magic of coffee. According to folklore, Kaldi noticed his goats prancing energetically after eating bright red cherries from a wild coffee shrub.
Curious, he tried the cherries himself and experienced a rush of renewed energy. He brought them to a local monastery, where the monks skeptically tossed them into a fire. The roasting beans released an intoxicating, rich aroma, and the very first cup of coffee was brewed.
At Kaldi Institute, we channel that same spirit of discovery, curiosity, and energy, teaching coffee education through chemistry, taste, and technical mastery.

"Curiosity is the seed of discovery. We teach our students to explore coffee with the same wonder that Kaldi had."

Every year has brought a new chapter in building Nepal's finest coffee training institution.
Kaldi Institute was established in Itahari with a single mission: bring globally recognised coffee education to Nepal.
Our curriculum was formally aligned with Specialty Coffee Association standards, opening doors for internationally recognised certifications.
Expanded our training floor with La Marzocco machines, Mahlkönig grinders, and a dedicated cupping & sensory lab.
Crossed the milestone of 100 trained baristas, many now working in specialty cafes across Nepal, India, and the Middle East.
These principles guide every course, every session, and every cup we pull at Kaldi Institute.
We teach the chemistry and physics behind every cup — extraction curves, water chemistry, roast profiles — so graduates understand the why, not just the how.
Every theory session is paired with supervised lab time on commercial-grade equipment. No student leaves without real machine hours.
From resume preparation to industry connections, we support graduates as they transition into professional roles at specialty cafes worldwide.
Coffee is culture. We host public cuppings, origin-education events, and alumni meetups to keep our community learning together.
World-certified professionals who bring global expertise and a passion for teaching to every class.
